Presenters: Debbie Charbonneau, Death Doula & Valerie Oldfield, Death Doula

Join us to learn all about the role of a Death Doula. We will discuss the many benefits of having a Death Doula as part of your care support team, including all that we have to offer to clients and their loved ones before, during and after a death, as well as the best time to bring a Death Doula on board.

Valerie Oldfield is a former Ontario Certified Teacher. For over 25 years she facilitated support groups for various non-profits. She studied Applied Counselling Studies and earned a Certificate in Personal Support Counselling from the Kelowna College of Counselling as well as a Bereavement Education Certificate from the University of Toronto. For over 8 years, with Bereaved Families of Ontario, Valerie was a grief companion to teens, and adults of all ages, before becoming a Death Doula. She is also the author of a children's book about infant loss titled "Where's Our Baby".

s a Death Doula, Debbie Charbonneau combines her abilities, knowledge, and experience to guide those who wish to explore and engage with the cycle of life, dying and death. A graduate of the Contemplative End of Life Care Program of the Institute of Traditional Medicine in Toronto, as well as the Algonquin College Palliative Care Certificate program in Ottawa, Debbie weaves formal education with hands-on experience garnered volunteering in hospice. She also has extensive studies in global shamanic and wisdom practices, including certification as an Archetypal Consultant through the Sacred Contract Program at CMED Institute. Her services include practical as well as heart-centered end of life conversations, meditative work, and other wisdom and energetic processes. Just as each person's journey is unique, so is the environment that is co-created to meet the needs of the individuals involved.

    Presenter: Pat Spadafora, Kaleidoscope Consulting

From 1996-2018, the percentage of workers 55+ (Stats Canada 2019) increased from 10% to 21% of the workforce and it continues to increase. However, despite their growing numbers, older workers remain a largely untapped and often undervalued resource. A very small percentage of organizations have incorporated age inclusion in their policies.

What does this mean for your organization? How can engaging older workers be a win-win for both you and your employees? What are older adults seeking in employment? What matters to them? Please join us for an interactive conversation about the benefits of attracting and retaining older workers.

Pat Spadafora is the founder and former Director of the Centre for Elder Research at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. With many years of experience in post-secondary education, social work and applied research, Ms. Spadafora has a proven track record for bringing creative projects to fruition. Ms. Spadafora launched Kaleidoscope Consulting in 2018. As a consultant, she has been able to build on her experiences to more specifically focus on community engagement and related projects. Ms. Spadafora’s experience and interests are broad and include: age-inclusive work places; the needs and interests of older workers; entrepreneurship; navigating life transitions; social/nature prescribing; fostering multigenerational environments; aging in community; the human cost of social isolation and loneliness; enabling technologies and capacity building with organizations that serve older adults. Through Kaleidoscope Consulting, Pat’s mission is to change the way we view aging.
