  • Better understand the roles and responsibilities of volunteer board members
  • Develop a healthy tension between senior leaders and the board
  • Tackle the most common issues that have the greatest impact on overall board effectiveness

We will review current trends, best-practices and outline tangible strategies you can use today.

What Topics Does this Session Cover?

  • Understanding Roles and Responsibilities: Explore the distinct roles of the Board, individual Directors, and staff, including fiduciary obligations, acceptable risks, and conflict of interest management.
  • Enhancing Board Effectiveness: Identify common challenges faced by boards, characteristics of outstanding boards, and the distinctions between “working” and “governance” boards.
  • Adapting to Governance Trends: Gain insights into evolving standards of good governance in the non-profit sector and strategies for aligning with these changes.

As CEO, Danielle leads the Laridae team, driving the future growth of the company, ensuring we have a strong, values-based workplace culture, and that we continue to prioritize our client’s experiences.

Danielle, a Chartered Director (C.Dir.) from McMaster University, has distinguished herself as a prominent governance professional in the non-profit sector. Her extensive governance expertise is built on a foundation of over a decade of experience serving on various non-profit boards and spearheading governance training initiatives across Canada.

She has developed and delivered comprehensive governance training programs tailored to non-profit organizations. Annually, she trains over 15 Board of Directors, focusing on roles and responsibilities, governance structures, and fiduciary duties.

Danielle's role extends beyond training; she actively assists boards with performance assessments, governance restructuring, and policy reviews. She collaborates with approximately 20 boards yearly on strategic planning and other governance issues. Her professional work also includes significant volunteer contributions to boards, where she has played crucial roles in enhancing governance systems and amplifying female voices in governance.
