Presenter: Pat Spadafora, Kaleidoscope Consulting

From 1996-2018, the percentage of workers 55+ (Stats Canada 2019) increased from 10% to 21% of the workforce and it continues to increase. However, despite their growing numbers, older workers remain a largely untapped and often undervalued resource. A very small percentage of organizations have incorporated age inclusion in their policies.

What does this mean for your organization? How can engaging older workers be a win-win for both you and your employees? What are older adults seeking in employment? What matters to them? Please join us for an interactive conversation about the benefits of attracting and retaining older workers.

Pat Spadafora is the founder and former Director of the Centre for Elder Research at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. With many years of experience in post-secondary education, social work and applied research, Ms. Spadafora has a proven track record for bringing creative projects to fruition. Ms. Spadafora launched Kaleidoscope Consulting in 2018. As a consultant, she has been able to build on her experiences to more specifically focus on community engagement and related projects. Ms. Spadafora’s experience and interests are broad and include: age-inclusive work places; the needs and interests of older workers; entrepreneurship; navigating life transitions; social/nature prescribing; fostering multigenerational environments; aging in community; the human cost of social isolation and loneliness; enabling technologies and capacity building with organizations that serve older adults. Through Kaleidoscope Consulting, Pat’s mission is to change the way we view aging.
