Presenter: Pinnguaq Association

Our program is designed to equip older adults with the skills they need to connect and thrive in this growing digital world. From navigating the internet and using essential software to learning introductory coding languages, our hands-on, project-based workshops equip learners to be builders and not just consumers of technology.

Code your own holiday card! Join us for a beginner friendly workshop and create your own digital [holiday] card! In this workshop, you will learn some introductory coding languages including HTML and CSS and create a holiday card for your family that you can send out digitally.

The Pinnguaq Association partners with rural, remote, northern, and Indigenous communities to build STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) skills through innovative technology, art, and play. Founded in 2012 as a youth coding club in Pangnirtung, Nunavut, it has expanded into a national organization with headquarters in Iqaluit and Lindsay, Ontario. Pinnguaq provides digital literacy, STEAM education, and workforce development for equity-deserving groups, including Inuit, Indigenous communities, women, LGBTQ2+ people, and persons with disabilities. To date, it has delivered over 350,000 learning experiences and trained more than 20,000 educators. Notable awards include the 2016 Arctic Inspiration Prize, the 2017 Startup Canada Awards for Best Social Enterprise (North and Canada-wide), and the 2022 Literacy Innovation Award from ABC Life Literacy Canada. Pinnguaq also operates Makerspaces in Nunavut and Ontario, and supports 10 additional community spaces in Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Labrador.
